Up until 1991, Carl performed and recorded with many bands in the Niagara Falls/Buffalo, New York area such as "Spanish Fly" and "Big Trouble."

In 1991, Carl decided to challenge his musicianship and drumming skills by enrolling at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. While at Berklee, Carl got the chance to study with some of the best instructors in the Boston area such as Alan Hall, Skip Hadden, Rick Considine and Ed Kaspik.
